Cape Cod Weeder
This project involved the manufacturing of the metal blade component used in the Cape Cod Weeder assembly. The blade was produced from 304 stainless steel, chosen for its corrosion resistance, durability, and ability to maintain a sharp cutting edge during outdoor use. The part required precise shaping and finishing to ensure effective performance when removing weeds while maintaining long-term resistance to wear and environmental exposure.
The Cape Cod Weeder blade was manufactured using CNC wire forming as the primary process, ensuring precise shaping and repeatable accuracy for high-volume production. Secondary processes included stamping and grinding, with stamping used to form the blade profile and refine the geometry, and grinding applied to create the final cutting edge. Production utilized a Robomac CNC wire forming machine, Straight Side Punch Press, and OBI Punch Press for forming and stamping operations, along with a custom-made sharpening tool to achieve the final edge. The component was produced from 304 stainless steel, chosen for its strength, corrosion resistance, and ability to maintain a sharp edge for outdoor gardening applications.
